Vigil for Health Care Justice
7 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2007
West Steps of the Capitol, Denver

Paul Hannum

Thomas Wilkes

Paul Hannum was expecting his first child last summer when, uninsured, he died of a ruptured appendix. He would be alive today had he been a citizen of any industrialized country in the world except the United States. Ours is the only one that denies its citizens guaranteed health care.
Thomas Wilkes has a happy future -- as long as his parents keep up their exhausting struggle to keep his medical care.
Please join us at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 28th, 2007 on the West Steps of the Capitol Building at Colfax and Grant in Denver, Colorado as we remember those loved ones who are gone and give our support to those that are fighting for health care justice in Colorado. There will be live music and speakers.
This vigil is one of many across the country, including a vigil on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. For more information go to www.HealthCareForAllColorado.org this vigil is also sponsored by the Metro student organization Heart, Healthcare Access in R Time.

Health Care Vigil - Denver, Colorado
West Steps of the Capitol Building
September 28, 2007 - 7 PMDenver, Colorado:
On Friday, September 28, 7 pm, on the West Steps of the Capitol, there will be a vigil to remember those who have died as a consequence of the unjust U.S. health care system; and also to encourage those families struggling to get care.
The vigil will honor Paul Hannum, a Colorado native and independent filmmaker who died of appendicitis in 2006, and Thomas Wilkes, a lively 4-year-old Coloradan born with extreme hemophilia whose family has faced financial ruin to care for him.
This vigil, sponsored by Health Care for All Colorado, the Metro student organization HEART (Healthcare Equal Access in R Time), and the American Patients for Universal Health Care, is one of many nationally, including a concurrent vigil on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.
People can call HCAC (303.277.8306) with the names of loved ones who have died or are struggling with the lack of guaranteed health care in Colorado. All names will be read at the vigil. Because of state regulations, people are asked not to bring candles. Glowsticks will be available at the vigil.
