About the Colorado 208 Commission for Health Care Reform
State Senate Bill 208 created the Colorado Blue Ribbon Commission for Health Care Reform.
The 27 commissioners were health care providers, consumers and business representatives (many with years of work in the health insurance industry and HMOs) which made recommendations for comprehensive health care reform with improved health care access for all to the State Legislature by January 2008. Commissioners chose four proposals out of 19 comprehensive proposals submitted to them. An independent analyst, The Lewin Group, has been modeling those four plans for reform ? including HCAC's proposal, called the Colorado Health Services Plan. The Commissioners are now designing their own, additional and composite proposal for evaluation. Senate Bill 208 calls for hearings in each of the seven congressional districts of Colorado.
Now is the time to dialog with our legislators and other leaders about a single-risk pool insurance as a remedy for current cost-inefficiencies of multiple insurances. Addressing the sources of inflationary health costs and cost-shifting is key to a vision for systemic health care reform in Colorado. There are a number of one- and two-page summaries of reports and studies to share with legislators throughout the Health Care for All Colorado website. See also information that can be shared with legislators: Background Health Care Information Compiled by HCAC to present to the 208 Commission.
